Voyager of the Seas – operated by Royal Caribbean - has become the first ship to call at the new Historic Falmouth port in Jamaica.
The port - which is situated between Ochos Rios and Montego Bay - is the first themed port and has 60 excursions available for cruise passengers.
Royal Caribbean has been working for three years in collaboration with the Port Authority of Jamaica to create the new cruise destination, located on the north-coast of Jamaica.
It cost up to $170 million to build, and opened in January following 12 months behind schedule.
“We are delighted to see Voyager of the Seas make the first-ever ship call at Historic Falmouth,” said Craig Milan, senior vice president of land operations at Royal Caribbean.
“By partnering with the Port Authority of Jamaica, we are working to deliver our shared vision of Falmouth’s rebirth.
“Together, we are bringing the town’s historic sites to life and integrating the culture and authenticity of this destination into a superior guest experience.”
Developments on the port will now focus on completing a two-berth pier, retail and restaurant units and a transportation centre.
Onsite attractions, hotels and residential areas will be constructed in subsequent phases.
The 5,400-passenger Oasis of the Seas and Allure of the Seas will begin calling at the port in March.
